attempt to improve rifle barrels, Harry
 Brearly added chromium to low carbon
 steel and found that it created stain
resistance. 

Stainless Steel is used in a wide variety
manufacturing  including caskets and
architectural applications...

St. Louis Gateway Arch... This structure is
630 "high and weighs 5199 tons. The outer
shell consists of 888 tons of stainless steel.
 It was dedicated in 1966 to celebrate the 
westward growth of the United States.
