HAVEN LINE INDUSTRIES ENCOMPASSES BOTH SCHUYLKILL HAVEN CASKET COMPANY… HARDWOOD CASKET DIVISION… AND COLUMBIA CASKETS CORPORATION… METAL AND CLOTH DIVISION.
Schuylkill Haven Casket Company was started in 1919 after the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. The building where Schuylkill Haven Casket Company started was an old steel mill with the railroad running right behind it. The steel would come in on the train in wooden crates. Seeing the excess wood, local funeral directors approached the steel mill and requested the excess wood be made into caskets. The steel mill saw the increasing demand for the caskets and began the process of switching the building from a steel mill into a casket manufacturing facility. Schuylkill Haven Casket Company manufactured quality wood caskets from 1919 until 2016 when the operations switched from a casket manufacturing facility to a distributor of wood & veneer caskets.
In 1975 the directors of Schuylkill Haven Casket Company saw the increasing interest for metal caskets. Schuylkill Haven Casket Company approached other independent metal casket manufacturers and Columbia Caskets Corp. was established as a metal & cloth casket distributor.
